Watery Wednesday

The San Juan County Sheriff normally patrols the
calm waters around the San Juan Islands
in this fine looking boat...
On this day, though, they were transporting a hiker with
a broken leg from one of the outlying islands
to the dock at Sunset Beach where an ambulance
was waiting for further transport to the local hospital...
Sunset Beach, Anacortes, WA
(7/12/07)

It's nice to know there are people which can help us if we need it. They are doing a great job! Nice story and picture.

Thank you for the nice comment on my blog. I guess you have right; the weather is very shifting, so the spring is here not yet

The true heros of our time are those assigned to help others out wherever they can. The water really is very calm and the boat has a most interesting shape.

That poor guy!

Looking at those skies I definitely would not want to be on an island with a broken leg. I imagine it would be quite the highlight to see the green Sheriff rapidly approaching to save the day. All he needs is a backing soundtrack.

Performs a valuable function but I would have to be convinced about its performance in heavy weather. From my experience it would be an unstable windsail.

Most have been said already! Having a job rescuing people getting in trouble on the ocean, have a difficult and sometimes dangerous job! Nice capture of the calm water - and a great boat!

Wonderful shot, I love that area though I have taken the ferry through the San Juans I have never set foot on them. Some day, maybe.

Loved this photo, and I am sure that hiker was real glad to see that boat turn up. Those guys deserve such a big pat on the back and more for the work they do.

ah, how scary to have a broken leg so far away from things. pretty capture though.

I like the colors of the lettering on the boat, maybe it's a little friendlier color than used in Boston.

I love the San Juan Islands - I lived in the great Northwest for 6 years while in seminary. Your photo brings back great memories of ferry rides across the sound. It also shows typical weather of that area - somehow that lends to the beauty of the place.
